Anne Phillips

We have learned of the recent death of Anne Phillips aged 91.  Pat and Anne ran the Longmynd Hotel up until 1972 when they moved to the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay.  Both supported the Club throughout their time in Church Stretton.

Golf Dinner Dances were regularly held at the Longmynd Hotel and notably in 1952 and 1953 Pat and Anne donated the profits of £122 and £141 to the Club.

We had no catering in those days and meals were provided at the Longmynd for Hargrove team home matches.

Club Annual prize givings, followed by a buffet and dances plus Fancy Dress Dances were also hosted at the Hotel to raise money for the club.

Pat and Anne moved to the Gleneagles Hotel,Torquay in 1972, but kept in touch with the club and for many years they arranged a golfing weekend for members usually in October donating the Gleneagles Trophy which was played for over a number of Devon golf courses.

Anne will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with her son Robert and daughter Melanie and other members of the family.
