Seniors' Captain - Peter Freegard

 Seniors’ Section

Introduction from Incoming CSGC Seniors Captain for 2021

When I first joined Church Stretton G.C. in 2012 I immediately joined the Seniors Section as they had roll up play on Wednesday and Friday mornings when members gathered between 08:00 and 08:45 (a little later in the winter). Everyone joined in on a first come basis so new members never felt awkward and over the space of a few weeks got to know the other regular members of the section. Typically the roll up attendance was around 20 members.

Additionally, the Seniors Section has a full calendar of friendly matches against neighbouring clubs as well as two Open events which attract visitors from neighbouring Counties. The Seniors Open events each generate in excess of £500 in support of the Seniors Captain’s Charity and club infrastructure projects.

It is my aim as Seniors Captain to continue the tradition of the Seniors Section to make all members, especially new members, very welcome and encouraged to play golf on what must be one of the most interesting and scenic of courses in this area. The section is open to all members over 55, so please come along and try us out. If you are interested in joining contact me by email at and should any member wish to raise an issue during the year also feel free to contact me.

The present COVID crisis has restricted our interaction as now tee times have to be pre-booked which precludes roll up play. The section is still playing golf on Wednesday and Friday mornings and a WhatsApp group has been started to help facilitate tee groups.
